Position Overview

The Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking candidates for Lab Technician and Lab Specialist positions to support the laboratory research of Dr. Jaideep Kapur.

The selected candidates will contribute to research investigating mouse models of epilepsy, including frontal lobe epilepsy and epilepsy associated with Alzheimer’s disease models. Responsibilities will include EEG recordings, drug infusion studies, seizure mapping, and experiments focused on the relationship between metabolism and epilepsy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments using mouse models of epilepsy.

  • Perform EEG recordings and seizure mapping studies.

  • Assist with drug infusion experiments.

  • Support ongoing research involving metabolism and epilepsy.

  • Conduct animal procedures and provide appropriate animal care.

  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and experimental data.

  • Assist with other research activities within the laboratory as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Lab Technician

  • Education: Associate’s degree required. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification may be considered.

  • Experience: At least 2 years of laboratory experience, including relevant student laboratory experience.

Lab Specialist

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification may be considered.

  • Experience: At least 1 year of relevant laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in clinical neurology and/or neuroscience research is preferred.

Salary

  • Lab Technician: $19.23 per hour

  • Lab Specialist: $20.19 per hour

Physical Requirements

The position may require extended periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Duties also involve keyboarding, laboratory bench work, and animal procedures requiring precise finger manipulation.

Visa Sponsorship

The position will sponsor eligible applicants who are already in the United States for work visas.

Additional Information

This is a restricted position, and continued employment is dependent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

The position is based in Charlottesville, Virginia, and is offered as a full-time position with benefits. The University of Virginia provides a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.
