Innovative Pet Lab is seeking a skilled Microbiologist with expertise in parasitology and veterinary diagnostic testing to join its growing laboratory team in Norcross, Georgia. This opportunity is ideal for professionals who have experience in microscopic parasite identification and veterinary laboratory testing.
The successful candidate will play a key role in performing stool-based diagnostic testing for dogs and cats, helping veterinarians and pet owners better understand animal health through accurate laboratory analysis.
Full-time employees will also participate in broader diagnostic laboratory activities, including ELISA testing and routine laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
As a Microbiologist, your duties may include:
- Perform ova and parasite (O&P) examinations on canine and feline stool specimens.
- Prepare samples using flotation, sedimentation, staining, concentration, and other laboratory techniques.
- Identify parasite eggs, cysts, oocysts, larvae, and other organisms through microscopic examination.
- Distinguish clinically significant parasites from artifacts and non-parasitic materials.
- Record laboratory findings accurately and assist with result reporting.
- Follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality assurance protocols, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain laboratory microscopes and other equipment.
- Support specimen processing, inventory management, and laboratory documentation.
- Assist in improving laboratory procedures and quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities (Full-Time Position)
- Perform ELISA-based diagnostic testing.
- Prepare laboratory reagents, controls, standards, and specimens.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
- Review quality control data and investigate testing discrepancies.
- Support pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory activities.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Microbiology, Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, Veterinary Technology, Parasitology, or a related discipline.
- Practical experience identifying parasites using microscopy.
- Knowledge of ova and parasite (O&P) testing procedures.
- Ability to recognize common intestinal parasites affecting dogs and cats.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate laboratory results.
- Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a laboratory environment.
- Willingness to handle and process stool specimens.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Experience working in veterinary, clinical, diagnostic, public health, research, or reference laboratories.
- Expertise in canine and feline parasitology.
- Experience performing ELISA or other immunoassay-based diagnostic testing.
- Knowledge of laboratory quality systems, quality control procedures, and SOP development.
- ASCP certification or veterinary laboratory experience (preferred but not mandatory).
Working Hours
Part-Time
- Approximately 10–20 hours per week.
- Flexible scheduling with potential evening and weekend shifts.
Full-Time
- Includes expanded responsibilities across parasitology, ELISA testing, and daily laboratory operations.
